In conjunction with Hemmant's List, we are pleased to launch our inaugural three part Family Law seminar series. Building on our 2025 series on litigation, disputes, and insolvency, we are now offering a dedicated 2026 program for family law practitioners. The 2026 series will tackle current issues in family law, pairing leading legal perspectives with practical financial analysis to support better outcomes for clients and the Court.

Seminar one: Quantifying the financial impact of family violence

The Family Law Amendment Act 2024 reforms have made clear that, where relevant, the Court may consider the economic effect of family violence when determining property and financial matters. This session focuses on the practical intersection between the legal framework and the financial evidence required to demonstrate economic consequence.

Hemmant’s List barristers will explain how the reforms change the way family violence is raised and analysed in property settlement and maintenance contexts, and what is likely to be required to link conduct to economic impact in a way that is persuasive and usable. Grant Thornton’s forensic accountants will then outline a structured approach to identifying and quantifying financial consequences, including modelling lost earnings and earning capacity, future needs costing, and, where relevant, the impact on business value. The emphasis is on practical, actionable guidance that can be applied directly in negotiations, mediations, and hearings.

For those unable to attend in person, the seminar will also be live‑streamed online via Microsoft Teams. When registering, you will be asked to select your attendance type: in person or online (virtual).
